Minnesota Lakes

Journey to the land of 10,000 lakes, where tremendous numbers of birds nest for the Summer season. Hear Warblers, Flycatchers, Grosbeaks, Snipe, Bittern, and more in these rich stereo recordings. Minnesota has the highest density of nesting Common Loons in the USA. The magical calls of the Loon are captured here with incredible clarity in their natural environment. The tracks are edited to allow for nearly seamless transitions during looping. Enjoy these vibrant nature soundscapes from remote northern lakes, with no added music or mosquito bites.

Extended Sample from the Whitefish Lake track:

Track List:

Dragon Lake: 25:00 min.

Near the edge of the Boreal Forest, off a rough dirt road, is a secluded lake surrounded by mixed pine and birch. A light breeze is heard in the pines, along with an abundance of birds during this dawn chorus. Chestnut-Sided Warblers, Least Flycatchers, Red-Breasted Grosbeak, Eastern Wood Pewee, Robin, Crow, Pine Warbler, and Woodpeckers are heard. Hear the tremolo and wails of Loons from the lake. Listen for Red Squirrels playing in the trees and a Hummingbird buzzing in to check things out.

Whitefish Lake: 30:00 min.

A flurry of activity begins at the crack of dawn around this larger lake. The shores are full of Cattails, which attract many Red-Winged Blackbirds, and provide sanctuary for American Bitterns, which are heard nearby. Eagles quietly soar above, as Cedar Waxwings line up on the tree limbs. Loons call loudly as Canada Geese, Ducks, and Snipe are heard in the background. Field Sparrow, Robin, Red-Eyed Vireo, Common Yellowthroat and Chestnut-Sided Warblers sing from the brush. This is a morning rich with wildlife diversity.

Nighttime Shore: 23:00 min.

After midnight, many creatures fill the night with eerie sounds. Common Snipe perform aerial displays while winnowing. Abundant May Bugs buzz by. Barred Owls call from the deep forest. Great Blue Herons squawk as they fly about. Distant American Toads, Green Frogs, and Killdeer are heard. Listen for the drumming of Ruffed Grouse and fish splashing in the water. The wails of the Loon pierce the night and seem to echo forever across the lake. Listen to one Loon perform a display, paddling in circles as it calls with a very loud tremolo. This album is a spectacular auditory experience.

Total Run Time: 84:00 min.
